Despite the bitter cold and snow fall, last weekends training tour was a resounding success. All crews took advantage of the calm, still waters Marlow had to offer in order to perfect technique and prepare for UH Head in a few weeks time. As well as improving on the water, the weekend away provided an opportunity for crew bonding. There’s no doubt that those who left London as mere crew members, returned as firm friends and an integral part of their team.
There was also an opportunity to relieve inter-team tensions through the medium of snow. Despite being bombarded with a volley of snow-balls unleashed by the M1st as they disembarked for their last outing, the M2nd wrought revenge by ambushing the vulnerable M1st as they approached the pontoon. Needless to say, a lot of people got wet and cold but hey, thats the whole point of snow.
Big thanks to everyone who organised the weekend and ensured all the boat and kit arrived and returned safely. Special thanks to Max Salisbury who provided excellent coaching over the weekend, especially when we found ourselves suddenly short of coaches!
Looking ahead, this Friday is Crew Dates – a chance to meet rowers from the other clubs for curry and drinks. For more information contact your captains. Then on February 18, one of the biggest races of they year, UH Head followed by the UH Head dinner. Definitely not to be missed! Good luck to all those racing.
