Our race report from RUMSBC's first BUCS event of the year comes from our Men's Senior Captain: Alex Cowan.
Boat Clubs do BUCS best
For a change of pace in the run up to Allom Cup the men's squad left the women to their home comforts in the 'calm' waters of chiswick and ventured to Fortress Imperial in Putney. Awed and inspired by the facilities made available to the very best rowers Britain’s university system has to offer, they began steeling themselves in preparation for what was to come: BUCS indoor championships. 2k's galore!
Being the first time the boat club has ever entered the event, little was known and much was expected. As a whole the squad faired excellently, with the majority pulling personal best times. Holding their own against the like of IC, UCL and Royal Holloway. Once finished the men de-camped to a local pub to celebrate what was a very successful day.
Fastest RUMS Athlete of the day and 16th overall
3rd fastest Lightweight of the day with a time that would have placed him 18th amongst the heavies and beating his captain.
