Novice Sprints

Back to the tideway for the most crustacean-laden race of the year. Read on for more...

Novice Men

After some promising sprints training sessions, the novice men woke up raring to go for the first sprints race of the season, and the first head to head against other UH crews! Despite losing a key rower to the cruel clutches of Virgin Trains (Alex Lane, you are an idiot) and getting a last minute sub in the form of Adam Jones, the boys got onto the water with a renewed hunger to leave their mark on GKT. Or so it would have been, had KCL not rocked up at the start line after they 'accidentally' put that boat against us. An excellent start left them slightly up on KCL, but eventually the size of man and rigorous training regimes that KCL possessed were enough to bring it back halfway through the race and leave our boys feeling an injustice had been done to them. Their repechage race against RVC seemed winnable, but the boys struggled to regain their focus after the disappointment of the first race and put in a performance they knew wasn't representative of what they can really do. A disappointing day all round, but the novice men know now that they be competitive with bigger University crews and I hope that buoys their spirits going into the races ahead.

Men’s 2nds

This was the first regatta of the season for M2, they had made huge improvements to their sprints pieces in the weeks leading up to it and were eagerly awaiting their first chance to test themselves against some of the other UL colleges. Their first race was against LSE, with what they described as "their best start yet" they easily moved ahead of their opponents which they held comfortably for the remainder of the race to win by easily putting them through to the final against St George's. Unfortunately their start was not as strong as in the first race, possibly due to the increased pressure of racing this very experienced crew, and they fell behind in the first half. Although they attempted several pushes to get back in the game, George's were able to answer them and they held their lead through the finish. This result however, has only made them hungrier then ever to be the top Second's crew and prompted a last minute entry into the Allom Cup.
